**Yom Kippur Observance in Tucson**

Yom Kippur, known as the Day of Atonement, will be observed from sundown on Friday, October 11, to sundown on Saturday, October 12. This day concludes the Days of Awe, which began on Rosh Hashanah.

According to tradition, Yom Kippur is the day when God seals the Books of Life and Death for the upcoming year. Many individuals use this time for reflection on their past mistakes and consider how to make positive changes in the year ahead.

It is customary for attendees to wear white, engage in fasting if health permits, and participate in synagogue services. After the fast, individuals typically gather to “break the fast.” Another important tradition associated with Yom Kippur is tzedakah, or charity, where people are encouraged to assist those in need.

In support of this tradition, the Tucson Jewish Community Center (Tucson JCC) is encouraging donations for the Project Isaiah Food Drive. Residents can make financial contributions or drop off non-perishable food items at the JCC until Friday, October 25.

For more details, including updated holiday hours, visit tucsonjcc.org/hours.

The Tucson JCC extends warm wishes for a meaningful holiday and a good sealing in the Book of Life.
