Gardening Series Celebrates Jewish Spiritual Connection

Staff Report / Tucsonlocal.org

A new gardening series titled "Soil + Soul: Gardening as a Jewish + Zionist Spiritual Experience" is set to begin in Tucson. The program will take place on Sundays from November 10 to December 22, occurring each week from 9 to 10:30 AM. It is organized by the Tucson JCC and will be led by Lev Metz, a Pima County Master Gardener and faculty member at the Tucson Hebrew Academy.

This six-session series will combine discussions with hands-on gardening activities that focus on the history of planting, growing, and harvesting food. Participants will also help create a garden plot at the Shay Shay Community Garden.

On December 22, from 10 to 11:30 AM, there will be a Community Work Day, inviting all to join in weeding, cleaning, and organizing the garden, aligning with the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, or "repairing the world."

The program is co-sponsored by the Tucson Hebrew Academy, Congregation Anshei Israel, and the Weintraub Israel Center. For more information about the series or the Community Work Day, interested parties can visit the provided bit.ly links.
