CGPD, allies nab driver after 100 mph Peart Road chase

Casa Grande Police Department highlighted a traffic-safety case in which an allied law enforcement agency observed a vehicle traveling at more than 100 mph on Peart Road approaching Rodeo Road.

In the initial attempt to stop the vehicle, an officer tried to catch up but lost sight of it before a traffic stop could be initiated. The vehicle description and license plate information were relayed to the Casa Grande Police Department.

Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) personnel began searching for the suspect vehicle using Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras. After gaining additional information, RTIC staff deployed a Drone as a First Responder (DFR) to the neighborhood associated with the vehicle’s registered owner.

RTIC staff successfully located the vehicle and relayed its location to responding Casa Grande Police Department officers and the originating agency. Officers then quickly located the vehicle while it was still in motion and conducted a traffic stop.

Following the investigation, the driver was arrested for criminal speeding.

Casa Grande Police said driving more than 100 mph on city streets is criminal behavior that puts lives at risk. The department said the incident showed how Safe City Initiative technology and relationships with law enforcement partners helped officers locate a dangerous driver and hold him accountable.

The post also described the Safe City Initiative as using license plate reader cameras, real-time video, and drone technology, along with a commitment to transparency and accountability. It directed readers to additional resources including a transparency portal, a flight dashboard, and a camera registration option.
